With the home straight of the season approaching we are well situated to make many more educated judgements on our BTTS and match result selections. See what we have gone for this weekend as we look to bring home a cracking price.
Also remember that it is wise to place a patent or trixie (multiple bets) on these selections to ensure a return if you miss out on getting all 3 selections correct!
Crewe v Swindon – 3.00pm Saturday
Swindon to win and BTTS is 4/1
Crewe are perched perilously close to the drop zone, just one place and two points ahead of Bristol City who occupy the final relegation spot. Each game will be key to their survival and especially ties at home. Today the Railwaymen face Swindon who are on the hunt for a Play Off place and will be looking to come away with maximum points. In recent times Crewe have played a few of the better sides at home including Brentford where they lost 3-1 and Leyton Orient which ended in a 2-1 loss. Both games ended in defeats but Crewe managed to find the back of the net. I am predicting the same to happen here.
Swindon have dropped their momentum in recent times and need to press on the accelerator hard if they are to mount a bid for a precious Play Off place. I can see no better game than here against Crewe who have struggled at home when the better sides have visited. Swindon have already got one over on their opposition today, when back in August the Robins destroyed Alexandra 5-0. The gap may have tightened a little since that game but Swindon are the better side and will show it once more here with a victory as another defeat may mean too many points are required to catch up with Peterborough in 6th spot.
Carlisle v Brentford – 3.00pm Saturday
Brentford to win and BTTS is 11/4
Carlisle are still very much in a relegation dog fight as they sit in 16th but just four points above the drop. The Cumbrians have picked up three vital wins in recent times against Coventry, Bradford and MK Dons with two of these being at Brunton Park. None of these sides bring the quality that Brentford bring and i really feel an away win is a formality. So will Carlisle score? All the stats suggest they will. They have found the back of the net in each of their last seven matches with BTTS landing in five of those and their last tie was home to high flying Rotherham and despite scoring early, it ended in a 2-1 home defeat. I can see a 3-1 or 4-1 result.
Seven days ago Brentford were thrashed at home. A 3-0 defeat to promotion rivals Wolves meant the Bees dropped down from 1st to 3rd- a devastating result after a quite terrific run. A good side doesn’t turn bad overnight and last weekend had to be a one off. I fully expect them to bounce back and take out their anguish on Carlisle. The London side are undefeated in their last nine away games and have goal scorers in Donaldson who has already hit 12 goals and Marcello Trotta who should return in time from the Italy under 21s to play and attempt to add to his ten league goals. Brentford have won six of their last nine away games and with the Bees wanting to put last weeks defeat to bed, an accomplished win is on the cards.
Rotherham United v Notts County – 3.00pm Saturday
Rotherham to win and BTTS is 5/2
Rotherham have been on of the many highlights in League One this season. The Yorkshire outfit have totally and utterly over performed throughout the campaign and find themselves in 5th place, 11 points above Walsall in 7th with a Play Off place looking good right now. The Millers have not lost in eight league games with almost three quarters of their fixtures seeing three goals or more. It is a real hot bed for goal scorers- on both sides with Rotherham conceding 43 goals this season, the most of any side in the top eight. Rotherham are the third top scorers in the division though and are never short of goals with 12 coming this season from Kieran Agard. I see goals and a home win.
Notts County our now four points from safety as they sit second from bottom, with the table not making good reading fro County fans. Reports have stated that football is being played the right way down at Meadow Lane and their position isn’t a fair representation of the quality on show. I expect this to be a far closer tie than the table represents and I can see County scoring and probably from Calum McGregor who is on loan from Celtic and has already found the net 11 times this season. Rotherham have conceded in all but two of their home games and haven’t kept a clean sheet in seven ties at the New York Stadium this season and this will only give the Magpies confidence when going forward. I see a close 2-1.
