Total Team Goals Tips Sat 3rd October – Colchester Great Value To Score A Brace

There’s nothing like the weekend to put a smile on everyone’s face and with a packed schedule on Saturday I am once again on the hunt for a team goals treble. Let’s hope for a winner!

Colchester vs Bury

Two sides in fantastic form meet at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and on the back of 6 straight wins it may look like an easy bet to back Bury to score a few goals here, but I’m actually going the opposite way.

Bury may well have won 6 on the bounce, but they have conceded in 4 of those 6 games and in the week their defence was far from sturdy, conceding 2 goals in a 6 minute period either side of half time against 10 man Peterborough.

A late goal from Tom Pope ended up sealing the win for Bury in the end, but Bury seem to be relying more and more on their ability to score goals to get themselves out of trouble recently and that’s why I’m edging towards the home side scoring a few goals instead.

Tony Humes’ side are also on a fantastic run at the moment, undefeated in 5 and winning the last 4 of those, but they have also been pretty lethal in front of goal this season regardless of whether or not they’ve won the game. They’ve scored 2 or more goals in their last 7 consecutive games in all competitions and they seem to have players scoring everywhere rather than one man running the show.

George Moncur has 4 goals in his last 5 games, Callum Harriot has 3 in his last 3 and Marvin Sordell found the net for the 2nd time this season in a 2-0 win over Bradford in the week.

Colchester also boast a pretty decent record against Bury, scoring 2 or more goals in 4 of the last 5 meetings between the two. Confidence may be high in both camps ahead of this game, and both are definitely capable of scoring goals, but I’m edging towards the home side here to bag a few for us.

AFC Wimbledon vs Barnet

Given the way Barnet have been shipping goals this season it’s pretty hard not to back any side to score 2 goals against them to be honest. Following their promotion from the Conference last season where they boasted the 3rd best defence in the league, Martin Allen’s men have found defending a lot more difficult against better opposition in League Two and currently have the joint 2nd worst defence, conceding 18 goals in 10 games.

They’ve kept just 2 clean sheets in their opening 10 games but it’s been more recently that The Bees have really started to struggle, conceding in each of their last 5 games and shipping 2 or more in 4 of those. Their away record this season also makes for pretty dire reading; played 5, lost 5, conceded 13.

Barnet have conceded 2 or more goals in all 5 of their away games this season and though this weekend they face an AFC Wimbledon side who are hardly setting the world alight, the home side are perfectly capable of scoring a few goals on their day.

Wimbledon have had a pretty indifferent start to their season and it’s always difficult to judge which side will turn up, but they have scored in 8 of their 10 league games and in their last 4 here at home. Let’s hope this Saturday it’s the right Wimbledon who turn up for us and the big man Adebayo Akinfenwa runs riot!

Ayr United vs Cowdenbeath

I’m heading north of the border for the last fixture in what is a pretty short price but looks an absolute banker to complete the treble. Obviously I wouldn’t be backing this kind of price as a single, but it makes a nice little addition and it should absolutely stroll home.

Cowdenbeath have had one hell of a tough season so far, and away from home it’s a wonder that any fans actually travel to watch them. In 4 away games this season they have conceded an incredible 16 goals, an average of 4 per game and given that this weekend they travel to top of the league Ayr United, Cowdenbeath fans may accidentally miss the coach for this one.

Ayr have scored in all 4 of their home league games this season, scoring 2 or more in 3 of those and only Dunfermline boast a better attacking record in League One, albeit with 7 of Dunfermline’s goals coming against Cowdenbeath earlier this season.

There really does look to be a gulf in class between these two sides this season and when top plays bottom with these kind of records, you just have to back a few goals.
