The goals have dried up in the close season with little to no action for us to feast upon but with a full fixture list of Europa League qualifying matches to enjoy tonight, it’s sure to be raining goals once more.
Defenders may still be on the beach whilst the striker’s will be chomping at the bit to get back amongst the goals meaning we should be in for an evening of goals, goals, goals.
With over 30 games to choose from I’m going to explain my top 3 choices below:
Drogheda United F.C vs Malmo FF – KO: 19:45
Irish side Drogheda have been given a tough draw with the prospect of Swedish side Malmo coming to town for the first leg of this encounter. However the Irish side have plenty of European experience and only narrowly went out to Dynamo Kiev in their least European outing. There’s no surprise to see the Swedes as favourites but Drogheda will be confident that they can maintain their 100% record of scoring and conceding in all of their first round, first leg matches in this competition, including a 1-1 draw with Malmo’s rivals Helsingborgs in recent years.
Crusaders vs Rosenborg – KO: 19:45
Norwegians Rosenborg travel to Northern Ireland with their season well underway and currently sitting 2nd in the Tippeligaen. Crusaders will need to be careful they’re not over-run by the away side who will seemingly be a lot less rusty than their opponents. However, after failing to draw a blank in any of their league games since the turn of the year, I’m sure they’ll give the home crowd something to cheer about by at least finding the back of the net.
Airbus UK vs Ventspils – KO: 19:30
The home team have had to relocate to nearby Wrexham’s stadium for this their first furore into European football. The Racecourse Ground will host what will be an historic day in the history of Welsh side Airbus UK as they welcome Latvia’s FK Ventspils to town. The fairytale rise of Airbus UK Broughton may well take a hit against the more experienced away side but I wouldn’t bet against them bagging their first European goal under the floodlights at The Racecourse.
