The weekend welcomes domestic action to whet our appetite, around about this time of the campaign the tables start to level out and we see how side’s seasons are looking to pan out. We now have more than enough info to make strong judgements on where those goals are going to come from and it is now time to start really bashing those bookies. Take a look at our treble below…
Swindon v Port Vale – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 4/5
League One is our first destination for goals this week and our first fixture finds two sides who are sitting just outside the play offs, continuing to find the back of the net but also regularly conceding. Swindon Town lie in 8th position on exactly the same points as their opposition today who are 9th placed Port Vale.
Swindon have started the season well after a summer transfer window which involved acquiring an almost new squad, including half of Tottenham Hotspur’s under 21s. They’re very strong at The County Ground having lost just the single game and scoring on average two a match. Interestingly for us Swindon have conceded five goals in their last two games against sides you would expect them to shut out- Oldham beat them comfortably last weekend 2-1 and Walsall put three past Town the week before.
Port Vale on the other hand are showing quite the opposite form having won their previous two fixtures and scoring five! A 3-0 victory over Crawley Town was followed by a 2-1 victory over Gillingham last Saturday. Confidence will be high going into this clash and you can guarantee they’ll get on the score sheet considering they have done so in their last six away games.
Hartlepool v Dagenham & Redbridge – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 10/11
After relegation last season, Hartlepool started ever so poorly with many predicting a double relegation at the time, they have improved recently and today see Dagenham & Redbridge visit who are also coming in to this game a happy bunch having just pulled off a shock 3-1 victory over table topping Rochdale. Just the two points separate the sides here with the away team holding the advantage.
Pool started their campaign by failing to score a single goal in their first five League games- Quite a stat. Since then they have since bounced back and have surged up the table having won four of their last five. They’re the in form team in the division and have bagged 13 goals in their last six home games, we expect them to add to this tally this weekend.
Dag & Red look made for our Goals Galore coupon, not only have they scored a terrific 12 goals away from home in their past five, seven of their last eight games have seen both teams score. What a great stat we love to see- There was not a chance we could exclude this one from our treble!
Arsenal v Liverpool – 5.30pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 4/7
Tie of the weekend sees first play third in the Premier League as Liverpool visit the Emirates to take on Arsenal. A great fixture with so much attacking flair on display and plenty of match ups such as Sturridge verses Giroud, Suarez verses Özil and Gerrard verses Ramsey. With this talent taking to the field you can see goals going in from both sides- But do the stats match the theory?
League leaders Arsenal have a tougher set of fixtures coming up which will test their title credentials and it starts here with a very tricky home game to Liverpool who really are flying at the moment and sitting pretty in third. Whether you think Arsenal are good enough to win on Saturday or mount a challenge for league honours you wouldn’t bet against them getting a goal against any opposition in the world at present. The Gunners have played 15 league and cup games thus far and have scored in every tie. Being at home will give them a big advantage and will see them start as favourites, I am predicting that Arsenal will get at least two.
We go from one big scoring team to another, Liverpool have the SaS, Sturridge and Suarez, who really are setting the division alight as they continue to find the back of the net. Between them, they have grabbed ten goals in their last four outings which is some record- one of these two are bound to score this weekend and they probably both will. All in all the Reds have found the back of the net a mouth watering 17 times in their 9 league fixtures. This is your Goals Galore banker.
