After a week full of European adventure we return to our domestic haven, and for another weekend I have omitted the Premier League as teams shut up shop with fear of losing rather than going for maximum points at the forefront of their minds.
Hopefully as the season progresses, games will open up and we can squeeze in a few more big sides to our selections, however we are more interested in winners than showbiz names here at Goals Galore and we have a pick from each of the football league divisions for you to enjoy.
Charlton v Millwall – 12.15pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 8/11
We begin our treble with a big London derby, a TV game which adds a little more enticement for the players on show and these two teams have undoubtedly been involved in goals in the early stages of the season. Both sides find themselves in the lower half of the league with just five points a piece, and are likely to be competing in this area of the table this campaign. In just six games, Charlton have managed to be involved in 16 goals and Millwall have seen 21 goals find either net in their seven matches.
The pair of them will be after three points here after difficult starts, Charlton have fulfilled the both teams to score bet in their last four games and I cant see them not scoring against a vulnerable Millwall side.
The away team may not have had the best of starts under new manager Steve Lomas and there were even calls for his sacking after only six games however last Tuesday they pulled off quite an acca buster when they turned over league leaders Blackpool 3-1 in their first victory of the season. That win will only give them the confidence going into Saturday’s game and despite not picking up too many points, Millwall have managed to find the net in their five previous outings. This clash has all the indications of an evenly fought game with plenty of goals.
Port Vale v Coventry – 3.00pm Saturday –
Both teams to score odds – 4/7
Coventry approach this meeting 10 places higher in League One and with double the points that Port Vale have picked up so far, so you must be wondering why this game should have the privilege of being involved in our Goal Galore treble?
Well the Vale may have only picked up three points on two occasions this season but have kept scoring along the way including goals in each of their home fixtures. Promoted last season from League Two, Port Vale will always be good for a goal whenever Tom Pope is around, the striker has found the back of the net four times in his last four games. Impressive.
Coventry visit on good form, all in spite of the chaos which has taken place at the club off the pitch, unbeaten in their last six fixtures where they have scored an incredible 18 times, they are nailed on to score on Saturday. If you fancy a cheeky single as well, dont look past Calum Wilson to score any time, if you get a moment, check out his August goal of the month too.
Bury v Southend – 3.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 5/6
Hardly a glamour tie but perfect for our bet as Southend visit Bury. The home side have scored 10 goals in their previous three outings at Gigg Lane and I just cant see past them adding to this stat this weekend. They have lost their previous three matches but these were all away and Bury will now be desperate to stop the rot and go all out to take three points. This open style will play into our hands.
Southend are the visitors who are also in need of some points too as they have now lost four on the bounce, the latest defeat being a 1-0 loss at home to Scunthorpe. If you take away that scoreline, The Shrimpers have found the net in every match this season. Club hero Freddy Eastwood is the danger man, once upon a time he was linked with a move to Manchester United and is finding the net regularly this season.
A very tough match to predict the outcome of but both teams to score should be a given.
