Another gutting week last week as now we’ve been 1 goal short from landing the Team Goals Treble in two consecutive weekends.
This week I’m aiming to go one better and I’ve been scuffling around the UK fixtures including the FA Cup to try and find a winning treble.
Portsmouth vs Accrington
I’m starting in the FA Cup 2nd round as Portsmouth host Accrington at Fratton Park. It’s a battle between two League Two sides who are separated by just a point in the table and I’m expecting a goal filled thriller on the South coast this Saturday afternoon.
Both sides have been flying as of late, Pompey undefeated in 5 games scoring 14 goals, Accrington undefeated in 6 games scoring 17 goals. In the last 2 weeks they’ve both faced a struggling York side with Portsmouth hitting them for 6 before Accrington piled on the misery last weekend with a 1-5 win away from home.
In all honesty, I could back both of these sides to score 2 or more goals here, but I’m leaning towards the home side. The reason for this is that although Accrington have been great in front of goal recently, they do also have a tendency to leak 1 or 2. They conceded in that 1-5 win against lowly York and although they’re undefeated in 6, they’ve managed just 1 clean sheet in that time.
The hosts have scored 2 or more in 4 of their last 5 games and fans will be expecting a positive result following their 6 goals here against York last time they played at home. And although the two shared a 0-0 draw here back in September, given the current goalscoring form of both sides, I just have to back goals, and I’m backing Pompey to find the net twice.

Halifax Town vs Guiseley
Regular followers of this treble will be aware how many times I have backed against Halifax this season knowing that they will concede 2 or more goals, but the tide could well be turning at The Shay Stadium.
Halifax come into this game on the back of 2 wins in which they have scored 8 goals and against pretty decent sides too. They’ve now scored 2 or more goals in their last 3 league games and though they still linger 2nd from bottom in the National League, the recovery could well be on.
Sean Tuton has been on fire in front of goal as of late and is expected to feature again this weekend. He’s bagged a brace in each of his last 3 games and could well build on that against a Guiseley side who are heading in the opposite direction.
The visitors started their season well with just 1 defeat in their first 6 away games, but lately their bus driver hasn’t been a happy man on the way home. Guiseley are now without a win in their last 5 on the road, conceding 15 goals in the process, 2 of which came against today’s opponents Halifax in the FA Cup.
That 2-2 draw here back in September came during a pretty shocking spell for Halifax Town, but given that they are seemingly turning the proverbial corner, I have to back the hosts to bag a couple here at an attractive price.

Swansea vs Leicester
Does anyone else get that feeling when you look at Leicester on the coupon every week that the bubble will burst pretty soon? If so then add me to that list, but if I take my heart out of the matter and just look at the stats with my head, it’s pretty difficult not to take the 6/5 on Leicester scoring a few goals this weekend at The Liberty Stadium.
Yes, the Foxes may well be punching above their weight but you can’t deny that they have been pretty stunning under Ranieri this season and with the likes of Jamie Vardy on an incredible run of goalscoring form, how can you ignore their achievements?
The visitors sit 2nd in the league and though I wouldn’t expect them to finish here, they travel to Wales with the knowledge that in 7 away games this season, they’ve scored 2 or more goals in 6 of them, failing to score twice only against Bournemouth.
In 14 games this season Leicester have been beaten just once and with 29 goals so far, an average of just over 2 per game, their goalscoring record is beaten only by Man City.
Swansea boss Gary Monk is under pressure now following no win in 4 games and here at home they’re without a win in 5, conceded 2 or more goals in 3 of their last 4 games here. All 3 sides who have scored 2+ goals at the Liberty Stadium recently are below Leicester in the table and have a scored fewer goals.
And with Jamie Vardy set to break yet more record, it’s surely written in the stars that Leicester continue their impressive run of form and potentially move top of the Premier League…did I really just say that?
