The new football season is finally here, and we’re hoping to celebrate in emphatic style with this huge 110/1 treble on the BTTS & Win coupon.
We’re looking for each of our three selections to start their campaigns with three points. However, we’re also backing the losing teams in those matches to all find the target too. A win here would be the perfect way to start the new season.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the jackpot victory.
Walsall v AFC Wimbledon
As far as betting in 2015-16 was concerned, backing Wimbledon on the BTTS coupon was as solid as former striker Adebayo Akinfenwa. While we have no reason to think the goals will dry up for Neal Ardley’s men, the step up could be a little difficult in this opening day trip to the Bescot.
Walsall missed their big opportunity for promotion last term, but new boss Jon Whitney has plenty of quality in the squad. With the firepower of Simeon Jackson at his disposal, there’s no reason that they can’t start their campaign with a few goals against the League One new boys.
The hosts may need to score a couple to grab the three points, though, as the Dons will be optimistic about scoring, especially with Lyle Taylor and Tom Elliot leading the line. Unfortunately, the defensive areas are where they look most vulnerable, and that could leave the door open for the hosts.
We think the visitors will score. However, it may take a few weeks to acclimatise to the new challenge, and we’re backing Walsall to prevail.
BTTS & Walsall Win @ 7/2
Cheltenham Town v Leyton Orient
Gary Johnson’s men were brilliant as they sealed their return to the Football League, and the Robins will now be dreaming of back-to-back promotions. While that ambition may be a little above their station, they are more than capable of enjoying a decent season, starting with three points against Leyton Orient.
The visitors, who finished just one point below the play-offs in 2015-16, will be considered one of the League Two favourites but they shouldn’t expect things all their own way at Whaddon Road. Star man Jay Simpson will want to replicate last year’s personal scoring feats, though, and his quality should see Andy Hessenthailer’s men find the target.
Cheltenham haven’t enjoyed the best of pre-seasons, but Dan Holman and co will be licking their lips at having the chance to prove themselves here. The hosts scored goals for fun at home in the Conference and that momentum could be crucial here.
The step up in quality will ensure that Cheltenham face a tough test. However, we’re backing them to pass it with flying colours.
BTTS & Cheltenham Win @ 9/2
Wrexham v Dover Athletic
In the Conference National, Welsh side Wrexham will be considered one of the favourites for promotion in 2015-16. But while the Dragons should enjoy a positive campaign, they shouldn’t expect things all their own way against last season’s losing play-off semi-finalists.
The visitors registered a 1-0 win at the Racecourse Ground last term, and Chris Kinnear’s men will be eager to kickstart the new campaign in similar fashion. If Ricky Miller can carry his fantastic scoring form of 2015-16 over to this season, goals won’t be a problem for Athletic.
Sadly for the visitors, though, goals shouldn’t be a problem for Wrexham either. Gary Mills’s men have enjoyed an impressive pre-season, and they’re attacking players will be raring to go ahead of the opening weekend.
If Wrexham are to finally seal their return to the Football League, they’ll need their home ground to be a fortress. While a clean sheet may be difficult against Dover, we’re backing the hosts to grab their first three points.
