It’s been a few weeks since my last Team Goals Treble which sailed home comfortably and after sorting a few things out personally, it’s time for a return and hopefully we can continue the winning ways. I’ve been scouring the fixture list this weekend to find a few teams capable of hitting the net:
Gateshead vs Halifax
We start in the North East of England as Gateshead take on Halifax in the Vanarama National League. For the visitors it’s been a pretty tough season so far to say the least and as I’ve mentioned before in my bets, their fall from grace has been pretty rapid, being potential title contenders before the season began but now sitting rock bottom of the league and 10 points adrift of safety.

Numerous things have gone wrong at The Shay Stadium off the pitch this season, losing players all over the shop and parting company with manager Neil Aspin, but on the pitch their losses have been much more noticeable, especially away from home.
Halifax have played 10 away games this season collecting 3 points from a possible 30, conceding in every single game and shipping a pretty incredible 26 goals, an average of 2.6 per game. Their only win on the road this season came against a struggling Altrincham side and the only 2 occasions where they have conceded less than 2 goals have both been against bottom half sides.
This weekend they travel to 11th placed Gateshead who at times have been hit and miss throughout their campaign. But here at home they have been pretty consistent goalscorers, scoring in every single home game and scoring 2 or more in 5 of those 9.
Yes, they also concede goals for fun, so I would expect both teams to find the next this weekend, but Gateshead should have enough to put at least a couple past a woeful Halifax.

Crewe vs Peterborough
Crewe have kind of been my nemesis this season. Every time I decide to back against them they go and put up a fight and every time I leave them they decide to lose, but I’m putting my faith in them to be terrible one last time as they host Peterborough at the Alexandra Stadium this weekend.
Crewe may have been resolute defensively at times this season as it’s only really been their lack of goalscoring ability which has stopped them picking up a few more points. We have to remember though, they have still conceded 26 goals in their 17 games and though that doesn’t quite meet the 2 goal average that I want, today they host Peterborough who have scored more goals than 22 of the other 23 sides in this league, matched only by Gillingham.
In their last 6 games Peterborough have netted 13 times, more than any other side in League One and away from home this season they have scored in all but 1 of their games, scoring 2 or more in 4 of their last 5.
Crewe are rock bottom of the league and are really having a tough time of things as it stands and I can only see Peterborough adding to that misery this weekend. The Posh have scored 2 or more goals in 3 of their last 5 meetings with Crewe and they should build on that today.

Everton vs Aston Villa
Villa may have shut out Man City in their last outing before the International break, but expecting them to do that again this weekend at Goodison Park would be foolish in my opinion. They may be under the guidance of Remi Garde now and you can only assume that results will eventually improve under the former Lyon coach, but this weekend is not the weekend for that to happen.
Not only do Villa sit bottom of the Premier League, they have collected just 3 points from a possible 18 on their travels so far this season. Since a 0-1 win away at Bournemouth in their opening away game, Villa have gone on to lose 6 away games on the bounce, conceding 2 or more goals in all 6 of those games. And when you also consider that their fortunes against Everton have not exactly been favourable in recent times, winning just once in their last 9 meetings and conceding 2 or more goals in 8 of those, I really can’t see a Villa revival coming this Saturday.
The Toffees put 6 past Sunderland here in their last home game and have failed to score against only the two Manchester clubs here this season. When you consider that they have hosted Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Liverpool here already in 6 games, to have scored 2 or more in 3 of those 6 games has to be seen as impressive.
I do see Villa eventually turning around their form given a few transfers in January to bolster their squad, but now is not the time for that and I expect Everton to win comfortably.
