With Arsenal slipping up slightly with a 2-2 draw at Southampton last night, the Gunners could slip to 3rd place in the Premier League if results go against them tonight. Manchester City and Chelsea will be intent on leapfrogging the long time leaders, which makes the Chelsea v West Ham and Tottenham v Manchester City clashes even more interesting.
Here are my betting views on tonight’s action:
Tottenham v Manchester City
Premier League – 7.45pm
Advised Bet – Manchester City win – Evens at Coral
There’s no doubting that Tottenham are a completely changed team under the guidance of new boss Tim Sherwood. Even Emmanuel Adebayor has recaptured form we had long forgotten. But can they raise their game against the devastating strikeforce of Manchester City which will be intent on claiming top spot in the Premier League tonight after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Southampton last night?
Tim Sherwood’s Spurs are undefeated at home in the league under his charge, although they did crash out 1-2 to West Ham in the Capital One Cup which was his first game in charge. Further losses at White Hart Lane this season include Newcastle (0-1), West Ham (0-3), and Liverpool (0-5). The visit of City will certainly be a cause of concern for Spurs.
Manchester City are absolutely flying at present. They’ve won 10 and drawn 1 of their last 11 games in all competitions and haven’t tasted defeat since mid November when they were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
There’s no doubt that a visit to White Hart Lane is no cakewalk but when City are available at even money you seriously have to think about how often you’re going to find that. With Alvaro Negredo on fire, Sergio Aguero back to fitness and Edin Dzeko breathing down their necks for a place in the team, you can understand why so many goals are being scored by Pellegrini’s team.
I wouldn’t advise the largest stake in the world, maybe 4 or 5 on a scale of 10. But even money is a great tempter for a team that have scored 22 goals in their last 7 games.
Chelsea v West Ham
Premier League – 7.45pm
Advised Bet – Chelsea to win to nil – 5/6 at SkyBet
Chelsea are playing brutally efficient football under Jose Mourinho at the moment, and that needs to be jumped on.
The Blues have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 8 games, including a 0-0 draw with Arsenal. Wins to nil over Swansea, Southampton, Derby (FA Cup), Hull, and Stoke (FA Cup) show that their defending is definitely up to scratch. They shouldn’t have anything to fear against West Ham’s inferior front line that are really struggling this season.
While Carroll returns for the Hammers he is yet to make an impact in the few appearances he’s made.
Stamford Bridge is hardly a happy hunting ground for West Ham. They’ve only scored 2 goals in their last 6 visits. For these reasons I have to be on the win to nil at 5/6. It just makes sense.
