Xavi got news for you! A weekend of top football around the continent has let us form a super treble of games where we expect both teams to score! Check it out…
Genoa vs. Lazio – 2.00pm Sunday
BTTS 10/11 with Ladbrokes
The Serie A seems to be picking up momentum this season, even in Europe across the week, there were positive results for the Italian heavyweights. I have been able to watch a few games from Italy this season as well and even though it is early doors, there appears to be a little less conservatism when it comes to tactics, which has resulted in a few high scoring games. Let’s hope for another one of those matches here.
Last weekend Genoa did register a 0-0 draw when away to Fiorentina, which does not make good reading. However, they did play with ten men from 74 minutes onwards and were very pleased with a point in Florence. In their previous home tie they took on the tremendously dangerous Napoli who they lost 2-1 to, but that was courtesy of a 95th minute injury time goal from De Guzman. Genoa have shown they can compete with the best and I expect them to find another home goal on Sunday.
Lazio have been involved with goals in each game they have been involved in this season, including a 7-0 thrashing of Bassano Virtus in the Italian Cup. In the league they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to AC Milan and at home they turned over Cesena comfortably in a 3-0 scoreline. Away here to Genoa, will be quite a test, however I fully expect Lazio to continue with their open football which should provide chances at both ends.
Wolfsburg vs. Leverkusen – 2.30pm Sunday
BTTS 1/2 with Ladbrokes
Along with the Premier League, the Bundesliga is the competition to watch. Plenty of goals, and teams who like to express themselves. These two sides have will want to put their own stamp on this one and I can see both teams scoring.
Wolfsburg were involved in a cracker of a game last weekend- one which I was fortunate enough to watch. A tough away tie away to Hoffenheim, somehow finished just 1-1, but both sides could have score three or four each. It was an 89th minute equaliser from Croatian striker Olic which sealed the point, but it was the open and exciting football from Wolfsburg which really caught my eye. In fact all four of their games this season have seen both teams score and this has included a tough away tie to Bayern Munich which finished 2-1 to the Champions.
Leverkusen have made a very impressive start to their season in Germany, these early performances led to many punter backing them to pull off an away win in Europe on Tuesday when they travelled to Monaco. Leverkusen left France with no points after a 1-0 defeat and they’ll want to get back to winning ways here. The highlight for them so far has to be the 2-0 away victory against Dortmund which demonstrated the quality of this side and set up. Incredibly, the last six meetings between these two teams have seen both teams score, and I see no reason why it won’t be seven in a row.
PSG vs. Lyon – 8.00pm Sunday
BTTS 23/20 with Ladbrokes
This is one of my more risky picks and I am relying on at least one of these sides to score before the hour mark. What I am after is one of these teams to take the lead so the other can go all out for an equaliser, which I bet they’ll get with the goal scoring quality they have.
Paris Saint Germain will fairly pleased having picked up a point in the Netherlands, where they drew 1-1 with Ajax in the first meeting in history between the sides. Here they face a tough challenge when Lyon come to visit on Sunday. A stuttering start for PSG in Ligue 1 has seen them draw 1-1 with Rennes last weekend; however they turned things on at home when they dispatched St Étienne 5-0 a week earlier. At home, you have to back them to score, as you would have to go back their first game in 2014 against Real Madrid to find the last time they failed to do so and Lyon are certainly no Real Madrid.
Lyon have not had a good start to their season having already lost to Toulouse, Lens and Metz which has left them in a paltry 13th place. However, you could argue they have turned things round after a 2-1 victory last weekend against money-bags Monaco. Confidence will be right up there going into this challenge. Away from home, goals haven’t been a problem, with the French side finding the net in 11 of their last 12 competitive games.
A £10 stake on the above treble with return an impressive £61.60 with Ladbrokes
