Welcome back to the Goals Galore European BTTS column! We don’t have Spain or Italy to work with just yet, but your writer has been watching Bundesliga 2 and German cup games in recent weeks so we’re good to go. As always, good luck and only ever bet what you can afford to lose.
Braunschweig v RB Leipzig
While I like to look at the last six games of each team – overall and home/away as relevant – when picking BTTS Yes bets, each team has only played two leagues games in 2015/16, but luckily I’ve seen them.
Braunschweig did draw 0-0 in their last league game, away to Kaiserslautern, but they’ve got home advantage this time and they lost 3-1 to Sandhausen in their first game, which was at home.
Managed by former Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick, Leipzig are backed by Red Bull and trying to work their way of the leagues to the Bundesliga. In their first league game of 2015/16, Leipzig won 1-0 away to a Frankfurt side who couldn’t score in their next game, so we shouldn’t worry too much about this non-BTTS Yes match.
Indeed, up against someone who could score, Leipzig drew 2-2 at home to Greuther Furth, and as the game was screened live on BT Sport, I saw it. Now, Rangnick’s boys played attractive, attacking football but looked really shaky at the back and vulnerable to counter attacks.
With greater composure up-front that day, Furth would have won 7-2, no joke. Leipzig left massive gaps at the back when they attacked, and with the last two head-to-head matches between Braunschweig and Leipzig seeing both teams score, I’m expecting that stat to become three in three.

Freiburg v VfL Bochum
Currently placed first and second in Bundesliga 2, Freiburg and Bochum have each played two games and won two games. Also, in their respective cup games midweek, both won 5-0 away from home against much lesser sides.
So, Freiburg and Bochum are two of the best teams in the German second tier, and I’ve seen them both play. Spearheaded by former Bayern forward Nils Petersen, Freiburg play attacking football, more so at home, and they left big gaps at the back in a thrilling 6-3 defeat of Nurnberg.
Freiburg did win 1-0 away at TSV 1860, so it’s not a perfect BTTS bet. Heck, Bochum, who won 1-0 and 3-0 in their two league games, haven’t even conceded yet, but I’ve seen them play on TV too and they look good going forward.
So, Freiburg have a capable offence, home advantage and have to try to score, which should leave the counter attack open for a very good Bochum team to net one. Finally, Freiburg’s last two head-to-head meetings with Bochum have seen both teams score, with four out of the last six being the same.

Borussia Dortmund v B. Monchengladbach
Jurgen Klopp left the club and new manger Thomas Tuchel started his competitive Dortmund coaching career with two straightforward wins against an overmatched Austrian side in the Europa League qualifying rounds, as well as a 2-0 away win against lower league opposition in the German cup. Not one of these games saw both teams score, but then they weren’t expected to given the gap in quality.
Monchengladbach, on the other hand, aren’t in the Europa League, but I watched them win 4-1 away at St Pauli in the German cup midweek and although we have to consider that they were playing a second division team, I was impressed with what I saw.
Rapid counter attacks and two nice team goals stuck out the most and Eden Hazard’s brother, Thorgan had a good game, scoring the final goal. Overall, Monchengladbach played attractive, attacking football and should be good to watch this season.
All in all, for what it’s worth, five of Monchengladbach’s last six friendly games resulted in both teams scoring and, with two of their last three head-to-head games against Dortmund being the same, I expect both teams to score at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.
