It’s crunch time in Euro 2016 as the group phase reaches the third round of fixtures, and the action gets underway on Sunday night with the climax of Group A.
Both games will be played simultaneously, as is the norm at this stage, and both will be screened via the BBC. Double the action, and hopefully double the profit. Bring it on!
Not to be missed:
Sunday’s Matches: Romania v Albania (BBC Four, 8PM) & Switzerland v France (BBC One, 8PM)
Host nation France have left it late in both of their previous fixtures, but Didier Deschamps’ men enter their final group game with a 100% record in tact.
On paper, Switzerland would have been viewed as their toughest test. However, France only need a draw to confirm their place at the top of the group. Les Bleus could restore Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba to the starting lineup while Dimitri Payet will be looking to continue his magic. Switzerland are probably heading to the knockouts even if they lose, but a win would see them leapfrog the hosts. It should be a classic.
In previous tournaments, the night’s other game may have been rendered redundant by the other. However, with the best third-placed teams going through, a win here would be massive for either Albania or Romania.
The debutantes have performed well, but could yet go home without a single point while Romania are looking for their first win in the Euros since Phil Neville fucked everything at Euro 2000. One way or the other, it will be a massive night for someone. Most people will watch the France game, but this one could be interested too.
Expect an explosive start to a mouth-watering four days of action.
Toe Punter v The Bookies
Two games, two bets: that’s our recipe for Sunday night, and we hope it’ll be a recipe for immense success.
Switzerland might be a good team on paper, but they’ve done little to impress in the tournament. Had it not been for the luck of the draw, they’d probably be going home. Despite the fact France haven’t played well, they should have enough to end the group undefeated.
The fact a draw suits both teams could make this bet a little problematic. But at odds of over Evens, it’s far too big to ignore. France have managed two wins without playing well. If they perform here, they’ll win. Let’s hope they do.
Bet: France to win @ 21/20 with BetVictor (£10 stake)
Group A has been a little scoring, and Albania are still looking for their first goal in the tournament. They’re an organised bunch, but they clearly lack a little quality in the attacking third.
Romania, meanwhile, have been restricted to goals via the penalty spot. With both teams battling it out to scrape through in third, there will be a huge focus on goals. However, a 1-0 either way wouldn’t surprise us one bit.
Bet: Under 1.5 match goals @ 9/4 with William Hill (£10 stake)
