League Cup action is always spot on when it comes to goals so a couple of those will be going into this week’s coupon. We are also going to throw in a match from the Championship for good measure which looks primed to be a Goals Galore special.
Leicester City v Fulham – 7.45pm Tuesday
Both teams to score odds – 4/7
These two teams will look to this cup tie as a game they can win. Leicester City won the competition in 2000 whereas Fulham are still on the hunt for their first major trophy despite their long history. An intriguing match we have on our hands which will be difficult to call the result of, therefore we look to the both teams to score market for comfort.
It is quite the surprise that Leicester are still competing in the Championship despite the huge investment that the club has seen for a number of seasons. However this may be the year they finally go up, The Foxes are in second place after thirteen games and are in good form having lost just the once in their previous nine fixtures. They have scored at least two goals in every single home game this season barring one and they’re going to score at home on Tuesday night.
Premier League Fulham are well known for their poor away record which has slightly improved this term. They visit the King Power Stadium on the back of a dire performance away to high flying Southampton on Saturday and will be looking for a win on Tuesday to boost their confidence and continue their cup run. Fulham are likely to make a few changes in this game as they look for a new winning formula but the men coming in are likely to only boost Fulham’s chances of finding the net, Hugo Rodallega, Adel Taarabt and Alexander Kacaniklic will all be hoping for a starting place. I can see this being quite an open game and I’m predicting a score draw and then penalties to decide.
Wigan v Queens Park Rangers– 7.45pm Wednesday
Both teams to score odds – 4/5
This time last year, these two teams were up with the big boys in the Premier League, twelve months later it is a fixture between two Championship sides both aiming for promotion back to where they feel they belong.
Wigan started the season well after registering a 4-0 win away to Barnsley, and many tipped them at that stage to take top honours this season on their quest back to the top; however since that match they have struggled to put a run of results together and are sitting mid table. The Latics will be looking to improve on their poor effort so far, and we know they have the quality with players like Nick Powell and Grant Holt amongst their ranks. Wigan have scored at least two goals in every home game this season- goals are on the menu at the DW Stadium.
High flying QPR have by far the largest budget in the division and have the squad to match. Promotion is imperative this season for their future, a wage bill of this magnitude quite simply cannot be sustained in the second tier. The ‘Rs’ are on track though and are right where they want to be in contention for those promotion places and they will be full of confidence knowing goals aren’t an issue with striker Charlie Austin who has seven strikes to his name in all competitions.
Newcastle United v Manchester City 7.45pm Wednesday
Both teams to score odds – 8/13
An all Premiership tie greets us in this League Cup Round Four fixture, without doubt both sides will make a number of changes which as past experience has shown us, generates goals!
Newcastle are desperate for a trophy after so many years without, could this be their year? The Toon have home advantage and are expected to be up against a much changed City side, this is an opportunity to reach the Quarter Finals stage with Wembley in sight. I expect Alan Pardew’s side to take this a little more seriously than their opposition and even though they may not pull off the win they should get at least a goal or two as they look to redeem themselves after City put four past them on the opening day of the season.
It is fair to say City have bigger fish to fry, the League Cup will be last on their list of priorities and significant changes will be made to the line up. In the previous round they put out a so called “weakened” side against FA Cup winners Wigan and trounced them 5-0. It is safe to say they will score on Tuesday nightwith goal scorers likely to come in- Eden Dzeko, Stefan Jovetic and Samir Nasri. Get on both teams to score!
