After the expensive Christmas period, we could all do with a big winner from the Boxing Day fixtures. What better way to achieve this than a 57/1 treble.
We’re backing three teams to all claim a win on the final Saturday of the calendar year. However, we do think all three clubs will leak goals too. For the sake of a £10 stake, it’s got to be worth a punt.
Be lucky!
Sheffield Wednesday V Birmingham City
In the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham each enter their Boxing Day clash at Hillsborough sitting just one point below the play-off zone. Both teams will be eager to start the post-Christmas rush by climbing into the top six, and we’re hopeful that this will transpire into a game of immense drama.
After all, the home side’s last three matches have all ended in BTTS winners while Birmingham boast 17 goals and have conceded 10 in just 11 games on the road. With the Owls netting 19 home goals, both teams certainly know how to pack a punch.
Both teams boast attacking flair but the likes of Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri should give the hosts every reason to be confident. They might need several goals to claim an important win here, but those attacking players are certainly capable of securing a second home win in a week following Sunday’s 4-1 hammering of Wolves.
Last year’s meeting in Sheffield was a 0-0 stalemate, but the Owls did win each of the two prior meetings despite conceding. Let’s hope we can see that happen for a third time in four on Saturday.
BTTS & Sheffield Wednesday Win @ 15/4
Colchester United V Southend United
Colchester United might be sitting rock bottom of the League One table at Christmas following a run of seven straight defeats. But Wayne Brown’s Eagles have at least found the target in each of the last six, and can be confident about finding the target against their Essex rivals here.
Results have been a real problem for the hosts, but goals are still coming on a regular basis. A return of 33 makes them the highest scorers in the bottom half while the attacking talents of Marvin Sordell and George Moncur should see them score.
However, the hosts have rea deficiencies at the back and have already conceded 55 goals this term. Quite frankly, Phil Brown’s in-form Shrimpers are more than capable of pulling those holes apart to secure a big win.
With it being a derby, we do think both teams will score. On current form, though, we have to fancy an away victory too.
BTTS & Southend United Win @ 3/1
Lincoln City V Halifax Town
Our final selection comes from the Conference, where a slowly improving Halifax will be looking to continue their bid for survival with a win at Sincil Bank. Unfortunately, the Shay could be in for a tough test against a home side in desperate need of a win.
Despite failing to win any of their last four matches, each of Lincoln’s last five have ended in BTTS winners. Meanwhile, the play-off hopefuls have lost just one of their last 12 league matches at Sincil Bank. If they can get the ball to star man Matt Rhead, they should be in for another productive afternoon here.
Halifax are currently enjoying their best form of the season, having gone unbeaten in five competitive matches. However, the visitors cannot seem to keep a clean sheet on the road, conceding in every away game they’ve played this term
Even after taking their improved form into consideration, those defensive weaknesses make for very bad reading. Even if Halifax do find the target, the play-off chasers should be expected to win on home soil.
