It’s a hugely important weekend across the English football pyramid and Saturday afternoon’s action should provide plenty of action. We’ll be hoping to see goals, goals, goals – especially from our three chosen games on the BTTS coupon.
All six teams involved will be desperate to pick up positive results to kick-off the festive season in style. At odds of over 4/1, let’s hope they can do it to give us some tidy profit. Here are our selections.
Swansea City v Sunderland
David Moyes is finally starting to see some positive results at the Stadium of Light, and his Black Cats will be eager to continue their improved form against rock bottom Swansea. However, they shouldn’t expect things all their own way as they visit the Liberty.
Sunderland can at least be confident of goals. Not only have they scored at least twice in three of their last four, but they also know Swansea have conceded nine in just two matches. With Jermain Defoe leading the line, the visitors should at least find the target.
Swansea cannot defend but Bob Bradley’s men showed their attacking qualities by netting five in their last home game. Given that Sunderland are no stronger than Crystal Palace, the Swans will have every reason to attack too.
Both teams are stronger in attack than defence. Hopefully that will show.

Bradford City v Charlton Athletic
League One side Charlton Athletic have seen vast improvements since appointing Karl Robinson, picking up 10 points from a possible 15. However, the Addicks will need to be at their best to gain another three at Valley Parade.
After all, Bradford are fourth in the table and remain unbeaten at home. A return of 18 goals underlines the threat that Stuart McCall’s team brings while Billy Clarke and co. will be confident about increasing their tallies against an away team that has shipped 12 in nine away games.
Nevertheless, Charlton have shown increased belief in recent weeks, which should see a frontline including Nicolas Ajose cause problems for the hosts – especially as they scored five in their last league match on the road.
Whether that’ll be enough to secure the points is another question altogether. Either way, we’re anticipating goals for both clubs.

Plymouth Argyle v Doncaster Rovers
The game of the day from League Two sees top-of-the-table Doncaster head to third-placed Plymouth Argyle, and it should be a cracker. And if it lives up to the expectations, goals should be a regular feature.
Doncaster are in great form, winning four league games on the spin to claim top spot. However, it’s worth noting that they do concede goals too, with their last six ending in BTTS winners. So while Darren Ferguson’s men are likely to be in great spirits, they’ll need to be careful at the back.
Plymouth enter this clash having lost three on the bounce and will know that keeping John Marquis and co. at bay will be difficult. Nevertheless, Derek Adams has seen his men notch 14 home goals this term and will expect more in what could be a crucial battle in the bid to finish top of Christmas.
Both teams score and concede quite frequently. Even with the added pressure of such an important game, that trend for goals should continue here.
