We have witnessed a cracking Christmas fixture list so far and it doesn’t end here as we have a weekend full of football, below are three games we think could produce goals galore. Here are the 3 games we think should be added to your both teams to score coupon this Sunday.
Chelsea v Liverpool – 4.00pm Sunday
Stamford Bridge hosts a fascinating tie where both sides will be answering big questions on how serious their title challenge is. Chelsea have already passed one test when they left the Emirates earlier in the week (that feels months ago now) with a point and Liverpool need to beat one of the big ‘top four’ away from home to prove their credentials after throwing away a lead at the Etihad on Boxing day.
Chelsea come into the tie on the back of a Boxing Day home win over Swansea City, it ended just 1-0 and Mourinho spoke after the game about his attacking players needing to provide more of a cutting edge to finish teams off. I am sure the Portuguese manager will be reiterating that message to his players in the lead up to this tie and we may see a little more of a ‘cut throat’ Chelsea on Sunday. The Blues have scored in every game they have had at Stamford Bridge, let’s see that continue here.
Liverpool in nature are not defensive and will want to be positive and will attack with pace on the counter as often as they can with Luis Suarez will posing a massive threat. The ‘SaS’ partnership may be missing Sturridge however Sterling is proving a suitable replacement as the tricky winger is coming into his own more and more, forming a partnership with the Uruguayan goal machine.
Liverpool have scored in each of their last nine games which included the visit to City and the five the Reds put past Spurs and three that flew in at Everton. Pool have been ahead at half time in almost three quarters of their matches, so don’t rule out an early lead!
Wigan Athletic v Burnley– 3.00pm Sunday
A big tie in the Championship sees under performers Wigan Athletic, hopeful for promotion back to the Premier League take on over performers Burnley who find themselves in a great position over Christmas- at the right end of the table. Plenty of talent on show should give us the right recipe for a goal thriller.
A domestic schedule in the Championship of 46 league games is more than enough to contend with for a club who have been used to just the 38 necessary in the Premier League, however when you add in a European commitment, the tolls on a squad are hard to avoid.
Wigan have fallen victims to just that but now they’ve been knocked out of the Europa League they can get their season back on track and the Latics are now starting to do just that. A few victories will put them into Play off contention and with the strong players in their squad, Wigan are always a dangerous side to play. I cannot see them not scoring and I even fancy an Athletic win.
Sean Dyche and his Burnley outfit have done a terrific job with a small budget, they even had to sell their star striker Charlie Austin to rivals QPR during the summer, yet they are putting together a bid for promotion and possibly even a challenge for League Champions at the rate they’re going.
The Clarets have a new goal scoring hero in England under 21 international, Danny Ings who is aiming for the league’s golden boot this season. Burnley dont rely on just the one player though as striker partner Sam Vokes has also reached double figures. This is a side not short on goals and I can see them finding that net again on Sunday
Torquay United v Exeter City – 3.00pm Sunday
A cracker of a match awaits us in League Two, it is the ‘Devon Derby’ as Exeter make the short trip to take on Torquay! Torquay are toying with relegation for another season after a fair few struggles so far, and need the three points a lot more than Exeter who find themselves in mid table mediocrity, however a couple of wins could mean a push for the Play offs.
As mentioned Torquay have not improved this season and are battling it out at the bottom with the likes of Northampton, Bury and York City. The campaign will be a success if they can stay out of the bottom two and secure their place for another year in the Football League.
Form and league positions go out of the window in a derby, and the Gulls will be up for this encounter with their local rivals and even though the result may not swing their way, I am sure they shall score. Torquay will also take confidence from Exeter having not kept a clean sheet in eight games.
Another reason why this tie looks great for BTTS is that if either side falls behind then they are likely to adopt a ‘gung ho’ attitude in an attempt to get back into the match. Exeter are the favourites here and have a strong away record where they seem to play with a little more freedom which has seen them pick up more points than they have at home. The Grecians will be confident of defeating Torquay which should leave us with quite an open match.
£10 stake on today’s treble will return a terrific £46.80 with Betfred
