After a phenomenal run to the Championship crown in 2013/14, Leicester City begin life back in the Premier League with the tricky task of facing Everton. The Toffees were one of the best sides in the country last term and Roberto Martinez’s men will be confident about their chances at the King Power.
Nevertheless, Nigel Pearson’s men will be in high spirits following promotion and will be looking for a positive result in their opening fixture. They only need look back to last month’s friendly in Thailand for proof that they can beat Everton and the likes of big Dave Nugent will be raring to go on Saturday.
Leicester have a great chance of at least finding the net in front of their home fans, especially as the visitors could be without Seamus Coleman, Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku. The absence of the latter two may make people avoid Everton, but the Toffees still have plenty of players capable of finding the net.
The likes of Steven Naismith and new signing Aiden McGeady will be looking to take advantage of the early opportunity at the KP Stadium, whilst Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar will be equally desperate to prove their credentials from the off.
This is a particularly tricky contest to call and both teams will be confident after their respective 2013/14 campaigns. It will be an exciting season at Leicester this term and we’re backing that to start with a flurry of goals on the opening day.
League One rivals Chesterfield and Rochdale have enjoyed contrasting starts following their respective promotions and we could be in for a classic encounter at the Proact Stadium on Saturday.
Whilst Chesterfield shocked Leyton Orient with an opening day win at Brisbane Road, Dale fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Peterborough. Keith Hill’s men then drew another blank with the Capital One Cup loss to Preston and they’ll be desperate to at least get their first goal of the campaign here.
The trip to Chesterfield may offer them the perfect opportunity to get their season up and running.
Both of last season’s league meetings ended in 2-2 draws, which gives us plenty of reason to be confident in this selection. In fact, each of the past four league head-to-head meetings have ended in score draws whilst the last six have ended in BTTS winners. If recent history is anything to go by, goals should be a certainty on Saturday.
Chesterfield have played two games so far this season, scoring five and conceding six in just 210 minutes of football. With that in mind, we’re backing plenty more action for the Spireites against Dale.
Staying in League One, Peterborough United face MK Dons in what could be another highly explosive game between these two ambitious clubs.
Posh started their campaign with a satisfactory 1-0 win over Rochdale, while the Dons produced an incredible late turnaround to defeat Gillingham 4-2. Both teams are up and running in style and that accompanying confident should lend to an intriguing contest at London Road.
Peterborough were a firm favourite for BTTS punters throughout 2013/14 and will continue to be a regular feature on the coupon despite the sale of star striker Britt Assombalonga, who joined Nottingham Forest last weekend. Even without the 21-year-old Darren Ferguson has plenty of talented attacking players to call upon and Posh should still find the net consistently throughout the coming months.
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a 2-1 win to the hosts. A similar story may well develop here.
