The boxing day fixture list is always a knockout with football fans up and down the country, and we’re hopeful of celebrating the drama in epic fashion this weekend with a decent 7/2 treble at Betfred.
All we’re looking for is a goal from each of the following six sides. Surely they can all provide their fans with some festive cheer – and us with some extra funds for the week of drinking ahead.
Good luck!
Bournemouth V Crystal Palace
Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth have enjoyed an incredible December so far, following up huge wins over Chelsea and Manchester United with another victory at West Brom last weekend. But the Cherries will need to be at their best if they want to extend their unbeaten run against Crystal Palace.

Alan Pardew’s men are sixth in the table at Christmas, and can match Bournemouth’s return of 10 points from the last possible 12. The soaring Eagles also boast plenty of pace on the wings and are scoring goals from all sources.
Nevertheless, Bournemouth are on a real high right now and have netted in five straight matches. Moreover, striker Glenn Murray will be determined to prove himself against his former club too.
We don’t think it will be a nine-goal thriller. But there’s more than enough attacking quality to expect goals at either end. Back both teams to score.

York City V Northampton Town
Last weekend’s win against Morecambe dragged struggling York City out of the League Two relegation zone for Christmas, and Jackie McNamara’s men will be eager to start a run of improved form as we approach the new year. However, they shouldn’t expect to have things all their own way against the high-flying Cobblers.
Results haven’t been great for the Minstermen, but goals have been a regular theme at both ends of the pitch with seven of their last eight ending in BTTS winners. Meanwhile, 15 of their 22 league goals have come at Bootham Crescent, so they will fancy their chances of goals.
However, Northampton could go top with a win. Moreover, Chris Wilder’s men have scored 21 goals on the road already this term while five of their last six competitive matches have ended in BTTS winners too.
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 1-1. We think the visitors will score more this time around, but a score draw would suit us fine too.

Barrow V Gateshead
After playing 50 league games between them this season, Conference rivals Barrow and Gateshead have notched a combined total of 63 goals whilst conceding 87 in the process. If that’s not enough reason to fancy goals from this Boxing Day bonanza at Holker St, then I don’t know what is.
Paul Cox’s home side have been involved in seven BTTS winners from just eight games in recent weeks. Furthermore, in-form striker Andy Cook has scored 13 league goals, including one in his last home game, so the hosts have every reason to fancy their chances against an away side that conceded five last weekend.
Gateshead have still scored in four of their last five and Neil Aspin will expect his attacking players to capitalise against a side that sits five points below them in the table.
Both clubs have reason to believe they can start the post-Christmas run with a bang. Let’s hope this leads to a game of high drama at both ends.
