Goals at Christmas sounds just the right recipe to serve up this Boxing Day, we have a long odds treble for you to get your hands on where we have predicted three games where both teams should score and one of the teams win. Get into the festive spirit and have a punt on the below…
Manchester City v Liverpool – 5.30pm
Eight wins out of eight at home has means the Etihad has certainly become the most feared ground to go to in all of the country. 35 goals have been scored in those eight games by Pellegrini’s men and some how 15 were put past Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United. At the weekend a further four goals were dug out away to lowly Fulham where they made it clear the net can be found despite the absence of top scorer Sergio Aguero. Another strong pairing seems to be forming already between Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko. Top of the form table and looking an unstoppable force at the Etihad, there is no looking past a home win on Boxing Day for the Sky Blues.
Liverpool come into the tie with no fear having already dispatched champions Manchester United earlier on in the season as well as putting five past Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. The Reds however did go down 2-0 to Arsenal at The Emirates back at the start of November and are coming up against arguably a more dangerous side on Thursday. Apart from that loss against the league leaders, Pool have scored in every away tie this season and even though many imagine they will lose here I can see them coming away with at least one goal in their defeat. Who to score it? There is one man for that job and that’s Luis Suarez who has now scored 10 goals in five games and is in the form of his life.
Huddersfield Town v Derby County – 3.00pm
Leaky Huddersfield welcome one of the in form sides across Europe, Steve McLaren’s Derby County. The Terriers have conceded at least one goal in nine of their ten games they have played at home and they could be on the wrong end of a fair few more on Boxing Day. At the John Smith’s Stadium, six of their last seven ties have seen both teams score which looks great for our bet. I cannot see Huddersfield posing County too many problems but i do see them scoring as they have done so often this season.
Derby will be stopped at some point but I cannot see it happening here. Seven games in a row have been won now which is just incredible and added to the fact the Rams have the best away record in the division having won seven of their ten matches, it looks like this game is ending one way. 15 goals in five games shows goals are not being found hard to come by and this could easily be 3-1 or 4-1.
Coventry v Peterborough – 12.00pm Saturday
Coventry are one of our favourites at GGT across many markets, almost three quarters of their games go over 2.5 goals and it looks like we have another match up which suits a flurry of Christmas goal gifts. The Sky Blues have found the net a huge 25 times in their 11 home games which you would expect to do wonders for their goal difference however 24 have also been conceded. I am predicting an away win on Boxing Day but I am very confident Coventry will score as they have done so, all too often this year.
Peterborough started the season top of the league after a fire cracker of a start, many expected them to be more or less promoted by now as they went home and away beating teams contentedly. However they are just coming out of a bad run of form which has left them down in 4th place but two wins in three where they drew the other has left them building confidence back up. The Posh won an important tie at the weekend beating Bradford City 2-1 and I predict this match will end identically.
