Sochaux v Evian – 8.00pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 3/4 with Ladbrokes
What a fantastic script which has been written for the relegation scrap in Ligue 1. We have ourselves a straight shootout between Sochaux and Evian for safety, with the loser suffering relegation from elite league in France. Both sides will be desperate for the win so expect a very open game, especially if there is an early goal.
Sochaux at home have just got to score. Undefeated in seven games and having lost just three times in their previous 15 and scoring 28 goals along the way- confidence will be high. In those seven unbeaten games, you would think sides had just let them get positive results, but Sochaux had to very much earn them including 1-1 draws at home to PSG and Marseille. Another stat good for our market is that Sochaux have scored at least one goal in each of their last 13 matches. In the last few months the manager has vastly improved this side and I am predicting a home win on Saturday.
Evian are also certain of their task at hand- they simply cannot afford to lose. A draw will be enough to survive for Evian, but I am absolutely adamant Sochaux will score; therefore the away side will have to go for goals at some point. L’ETG, suffered three defeats in a row before a 2-0 win last weekend over Nice kept them very much in Ligue 1… for now. Both teams come in on the back wins and with the importance of this match being so clear, both nets should bulge at some point.
Barcelona v Atletico Madrid – 5.15pm Saturday
Both teams to score odds – 4/5 with Ladbrokes
The Spanish title will be decided this Saturday with the winner being one of these two sides, in what should be a terrific end to a season of twists and turns. Both sides know what result is required for glory, with Atletico needing just a draw and Barcelona have got to get a win to overtake their rivals and claim a famous title. History has shown this is a game of few goals but i just cannot see Barcelona failing to score as they will be all out for the win from the start and this will mean Atletico will have to equalise and we could have a very open game.
Barcelona have had a difficult season off the field, but due to their superior head to head record with Atletico, three points will be enough to make the Catalan Giants the Champions. At the Nou Camp the fans will be fully behind the home side and urging them forward at every opportunity. Atletico may be the best defensive side in Europe but I would always back Barca scoring at home as they have done so in each and every game this season.
Atletico hold the advantage in the league table as they currently hold top spot and require just a draw here to take the honours. Atletico may have lost out on the head to heads in Spain but in the Champions League they came out victorious over their rivals winning 2-1 over two legs in the Quarter Finals. As I have mentioned I expect Barcelona to score which means Atletico will have to go on the attack. I may not be able to predict who will win this goals race but I do expect goals.
Lazio v Bologna – 7.45pm Sunday
Both teams to score odds – 4/5 with Ladbrokes
The campaign has already reached its conclusion for these two sides with Lazio hovering in and around midtable mediocrity whereas Bologna have already suffered confirmation of their relegation when they lost 2-1 last weekend at home to Catania despite playing against ten men for more than an hour. As dead rubbers go, this one is stone cold.
Lazio are preparing for next season and are expected to give many of their squad players an opportunity, this means that Mauri, Ederson, Marchetti, Radu and Positga are all set to miss out as will Onazi who is suspended. Despite these changes they should have enough to score against Bologna. Lazio have scored in each of their last seven matches and will want to end the season with a positive result in front of their own fans.
Bologna have struggled for a victory for some time now having failed to get maximum points for eight games which in turn has seen them relegated into Serie B. This looks like it could be a great opportunity to change their losing streak with Lazio ringing the changes and fielding many of their reserve players. I can therefore see this being quite an open game and there is possibly a shock result on the cards.
