I don’t know about you, but Wednesday’s Champions League offering looks like one hell of a schedule in my eyes. I can’t wait for what should be a dramatic night of action across the continent, and I’m expecting lots of goals.
I’m using this gut feeling to place a few anytime goalscorer bets for the night’s action, including a potentially huge treble. Let’s hope these three selections can cap what is already set to be a wonderful night. Here are my selections.
Atletico Madrid V FC Astana. 7:45PM
BET: Sergio Koke to score anytime @ 4/1 with 888sport
If there’s one result that looks more guaranteed than any other on Wednesday night, it’s that Atletico Madrid should clinch three points against Kazakh rivals Astana. Diego Simeone’s men will be determined to bounce back from their matchday two loss to Benfica, and we could see a big performance from the Rojiblancos.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Spaniards hit three or four, and I’m backing left-midfielder Koke to get amongst the action. The 23-year-old knows where the target is and could give Astana’s defence a horrible night at the office.
The most promising thing about this bet is the price. Atletico like to spread their goals around the team nowadays, and 4/1 for any of their midfielders in tempting. The fact Koke is likely to be one of the furthest forward only makes the selection more appealing.
Should Atletico perform to their potential, it could be a rout. And Koke could well join the party, which would leave us celebrating a winner too.
Malmo V Shakhtar Donetsk. 7:45PM
BET: Alex Teixeria to score anytime @ 8/5 with 888sport
As far as goalscoring exploits are concerned in 2015/16, you can’t do much better than Shakhtar’s Alex Teixeria. The Brazilian is scoring at a rate of over one goal per game this season, and he should be confident about increasing his tally against a pretty average Malmo.
Shakhtar didn’t score against either Real Madrid or PSG, but they should be confident about opening their account against the Swedes. Meanwhile, Texeria has netted two in each of his last three domestic matches and I’m expecting him to transfer that form onto the European stage here.
Progressing out of this group was always going to be difficult, but a win should set Shakhtar on their way to claiming the Europa League consolation. It’s quite evident that the majority of their hopes will be placed on the shoulders of their 25-year-old superstar.
I think there’s more than enough reason to back him here, especially at odds of 8/5. Come on Alex, do it for Martin.
Paris Saint-Germain V Real Madrid. 7:45PM
BET: Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime @ 31/21 with 888sport
I don’t care who the opponent is, odds of basically 6/4 on Cristiano Ronaldo to score a goal in a game is something I simply cannot ignore.
Granted, PSG at the Parc des Princes is one of the most difficult group games imaginable. But if the odds weren’t tempting enough, you’ve also got to factor in the fact that the Portuguese legend is even more confident than ever after becoming Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer at the weekend.
As usual, the bulk of the Madrid attacks will come through their main goal threat. I’d always expect them to score at some stage during 90 minutes, and their 30-year-old talisman has to be the leading candidate to get his name on the scoresheet.
Am I as confident as I’d usually be about a CR7 goal? No. But am I willing to back a 50-goal a season player to score a goal at odds of 31/21? Too damn right!
